The mission of the Community Mission Outreach is to help needy families in Eastern Lawrence County Ohio with food, clothing and a connection to other assistance that they may qualify for. As a “Client Choice” Panty we have a wide variety of nutritious food available to meet the different tastes and needs of our clients. The CMO also works with American Electric Power's Neighbor to Neighbor program to help people with electric bills. Most pantries fix up bags of food ahead of time and just give them to the families that they help and the family has no choice in what they receive. We are set up more like a grocery store. After registering the client takes a grocery cart and accompanied by a volunteer goes through the food room and selects the food for their family. The volunteer has an opportunity to get to know the families and become friends. They can help them select nutritious food that is appropriate for their family. We try to have available low sodium foods and foods for diabetics. Many older clients tell us that they don’t know how they could have made it if the CMO hadn’t been there to help them when they were raising their children. The Community Mission Outreach was organized in 1985 by local area churches to better meet the needs of the community. Currently the CMO is sponsored and operated by a group of 18 local area churches.
Garden Project The CMO partners with Jackson Area Ministries in Jackson, Ohio to provide seed potatoes, tomato plants and garden seeds to clients that will raise a garden. Around 250 clients participate in the garden project each year.
